Student Bans
I’ve been pretty quiet on the front of immigration policy (or really most politics) related to the Trump admin and immigration. This news stood out to me so I wanted to say something that is extremely clear: we should never blanket punish foreign students for holding different views.
I didn’t go to Harvard, but have been on campus a few times for work and know many graduates. I’m not on the side of the student protesters (we just hold different views on the middle east), but I do believe we need to support different points of view across society and allow only the best people into the country. Banning students tells the world that the United States is “closed for business“ and means that we won’t attract the next world-changing entrepreneurs and technologists.
Talent is a power law. The top 1% contributes the same or MORE than the bottom 50%. By attacking the top talent in our society, we attack the foundation of all of our growth.
