What’s up with you Carl? You seem to be writing a lot but I haven’t seen much company stuff lately.
Writing this for family / friends just on the latest.
I moved! I’m in Texas now primarily at the behest of taxes and “being in the middle“. I have friends on both coast now (my friend groups and networks are almost entirely split SF / NYC) so I need to be in both places relatively frequently. I’ll likely be back in NYC for a solid sprint this summer.
So are you still doing crypto?
Short answer is I wish - the community, energy etc were great. There are some bad actors in that ecosystem that I thought I could deal with, but it turns out when it goes from friendly competition to “we know where your family, friends and girlfriend live and we’re anonymous so you can’t come after us for harassment“ things change - it’s not super tennable for me to keep that going. I made the decision in March to step away and have been slowly winding that down over the past few months. David from suable who liked to threaten when we were critical of competitors would agree:
I divested my involvement - higherrrrrr is still running separately from me as a trading platform. Without me driving development things have slowed down. I think there are a handful of community members in the “you rugged“ bucket - genuinely I did my best and am in a bit of a rock and a hard place - no project or company is worth your family. It also seems like since December attacks like this have only ramped up (solana founder, coinbase hack)
So, what’s next?
It’s kinda boring, but post 3 years in startups I kinda fucked up my health. This summer / fall (winter I guess) I’m fixing that - trying to get in the gym and back to running plus fixing some long term health stuff.
I’m going to launch some fun side things (hopefully with less virality), hang out with friends, and do a bit of consulting. Nothing really huge.
Man I didn’t realize you had dealt with so much crap (it’s @eggs_and_jakey *Jake) sorry to hear about that man.
Totally agree you shouldn’t be expected to put up with that.
I don’t have any hard feelings it’s a tough space but I still have faith in the people who tried to build something cool. You were always authentic. Hopefully we can get to a place of better security and safety.
Good luck wherever you are! Enjoy the summer!
